Vol. 242 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork Airport.

53.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power what plans Aer Rianta or Bord Fáilte have to generate increased traffic through Cork Airport; and, if there are no such plans, if he will take steps to formulate such.

54.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power what were the passenger figures for Cork Airport in the latest year for which figures are available; and how these compare with the figures projected before the airport was opened.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 53 and 54 together.

Passenger traffic for Cork Airport in 1968 amounted to 163,048 passengers as compared with a figure of 75,000 for that year which was projected before the airport was opened.

Aer Rianta have undertaken, in consultation with local interests, a comprehensive examination of the problem of developing traffic at the airport. In this connection they commissioned a preliminary market survey, the results of which are now being studied.

Bord Fáilte are not specifically concerned with the promotion of traffic at Cork Airport. Their promotion of traffic to the area generally and the stimulation of tourist accommodation and attractions there should, however, assist the growth of traffic through Cork Airport.
