Vol. 242 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayo Fire Brigade Personnel.

32.

asked the Minister for Local Government why fire brigade officers and personnel are not paid on a nation-wide basis in view of the fact that Mayo County Council pay a smaller remuneration than other counties.

Presumably the Deputy's question refers to retained part-time fire brigade officers and personnel, who are paid annual retaining fees and payments at hourly rates for attendance at fires and drills, stand-by and other duties. Local authorities have general authority to determine the remuneration of this class of employees subject to a maximum rate related to local employment. I have no information on the actual rates paid in individual counties.
