Vol. 242 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - ILO Conventions.

56.

asked the Minister for Labour if, having regard to the importance of keeping public representatives fully informed of developments in the allied fields of social welfare and conditions of employment, he will have copies of all International Labour Organisation Conventions laid before the House.

For many years it has been the practice to have copies of International Labour Organisation Conventions presented to both Houses of the Oireachtas.

To facilitate reference, however, a comprehensive volume of all the ILO instruments from 1919 to 1969 is being placed in the Oireachtas Library.

Is the Minister aware that, if the practice to which he adverts has been in operation, the records have not been available to Deputies when they sought them and can he say if there was a lapse in the practice for any period?

I am not aware of any lapse. Some of the conventions applicable to the current year may not yet be there but they are usually lodged with a White Paper giving an indication of Government policy towards them.

Records of conventions from five years ago are not yet in the Library.

The Deputy will find that they are.
