Vol. 242 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Army Disturbance Allowances.

122.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he intends introducing a disturbance allowance for an officer as disturbance allowances are already available for civil servants.

I intend to introduce a scheme providing for the payment of removal and other expenses to married officers, non-commissioned officers and privates on permanent transfer of station.

123.

asked the Minister for Defence whether a married officer sent on a course from Dublin to the Curragh for a duration of up to nine months receives no disturbance allowance; and whether an officer on such a course received only two free travel warrants per nine months while he is undertaking a course at the Curragh.

Defence Force regulations do not provide for the payment of an allowance in such a case. The position of all married personnel —officers, non-commissioned officers and privates—in this respect is under examination.

Free travelling warrants or a cash allowance in lieu may be issued at intervals of not less than one month to such an officer for the purpose of visiting his family.
