Vol. 242 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Departmental Administration Costs.

8.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he has any proposals to have the administrative and payments system of his Department analysed with a view to reducing system costs, which might contribute to increased benefits without added premiums.

The administrative and payments system of my Department is continually being reviewed so as to ensure that administration costs are kept as low as possible. I am satisfied, however, that any further reductions likely to be achieved in such costs would be insufficient to enable benefit rates to be increased without increasing the rates of contributions from employers and employees, and, of course, the amount of the Exchequer contribution.
