Vol. 242 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Flour Milling Industry Costing Systems.

78.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether the flour milling industry has yet established a costing system in accordance with the Ministerial requirements and the recommendation of the inquiry into the flour milling industry.

I assume the Deputy is referring to the costing systems for the flour milling industry which were recommended in the reports of the inquiries into flour and bread prices in 1949 and 1956. These costing systems were related to the scheme of subsidy payments on flour which was in operation at the time. When the subsidy scheme was discontinued in May, 1957, the necessity for the flour millers to instal a costing system related to that scheme disappeared.

The flour milling industry introduced their own system of representative costings which I have accepted in relation to my present scheme of prices control. I may add that this costing system was also accepted in the formal inquiries which were conducted into flour prices by a prices advisory committee in 1964 and by a prices advisory body in 1966-67.
