Vol. 242 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayo Farm.

97.

asked the Minister for Lands when the farm acquired by the Land Commission at Cloona, Westport, County Mayo, will be divided; how the land has been used since it was acquired; and if it is being used only for grazing horses.

The lands in question, comprising 49 acres in the townlands of Cloonagh and Kileencoff were taken over by the Land Commission in December, 1967, and were then let in grazing, through a stockmanager, pending the preparation of allotment proposals. Resale plans have now been formulated and allocation will be effected as soon as the Land Commission secure clear possession of the lands from one of the persons to whom a letting was made. This letting expired last July and the person at present in occupation, a breeder of Connemara ponies, has refused to vacate the lands. Efforts are being made to ensure that clear possession is handed over as quickly as possible.
