Vol. 242 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Speech and Drama Teaching.

105.

asked the Minister for Education if in view of the need for additional qualified teachers of speech and drama he will initiate the necessary steps to establish a uniform standard and co-ordinate the efforts of teachers of these subjects who at present possess different teaching qualifications.

The position in relation to speech and drama is that they are incidental to language teaching which is normally done by registered teachers who possess the qualifications laid down by the registration council. Where special teachers of speech and drama are employed who do not possess the qualifications necessary for registration no question of prescribing any other qualification arises.
