Vol. 243 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Insurance Administration Costs.

78.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether at his recent meeting with insurance companies operating here he had occasion to refer to the differing costs of administration between such companies, which costs the policy holder must pay; and whether any consideration has been given to this matter.

Administration cost comprised one of the matters discussed at my recent meeting with representatives of the insurance brokers' organisations which, I presume, is the meeting the Deputy has in mind. I am concerned at the high expense ratios of insurance companies and I have, from time to time, urged them to try to bring about a reduction. I have been considering this matter for some time and I am not satisfied with the progress so far achieved. I expect to be in a position to make a further statement in the matter in the fairly near future.
