Vol. 243 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Highway Co-ordination Work.

42.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether in the matter of public highways he is aware of any lack of understanding between the Dublin Corporation, Department of Posts and Telegraphs, ESB and certain commercial concerns; and whether, in the interest of economy and the public, their respective operations might be more highly co-ordinated.

I am not so aware. The corporation have advised my Department that all reasonable precautions are taken by way of advance notification of proposed road works and consultations with bodies concerned with the provision and maintenance of underground services to ensure that maintenance or other work on such services is co-ordinated with road works. However, where very extensive work is involved in the renewal and alteration of underground services or in emergency conditions, difficulties can arise despite the general procedure adopted.
