asked the Taoiseach the consumption of main foodstuffs expressed in kilograms per head for the year 1965-66 on (a) wheat and rye (as flour), (b) rice, (c) meat, (d) fish, (e) milk and cream, (f) cheese, (g) butter, (h) margarine, (i) eggs, (j) sugar (refined), (k) potatoes, (l) vegetables and (m) fruit respectively.

The information requested by the Deputy is shown hereunder for the calendar year 1965.

(a) This represents the estimated total consumption per head of the food equivalent of wheat irrespective of the form of final consumption. The estimated amount of household flour included is 31.8 kilograms per head. The consumption of rye is negligible.

(b) Includes whole, separated and dried milk.

NOTE: The per head consumption estimates are derived by dividing the the total amounts available for food consumption in the State by the population of the State. No adjustment has been made for consumption by visitors to this country or by Irish residents visiting other countries.
