Vol. 243 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions, Oral Answers. - County Kildare Weir.

43.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will introduce amending legislation to vary the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945 so that authority may be given to someone to remove a dam on the Millrace at Crookstown, Ballytore, County Kildare.

The weir referred to in the question is part of the works of the Greese River drainage district constituted under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1925 and the matter of amending the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945 does not arise. If all concerned are in favour of removal of the weir, it appears that arrangements for its removal could be made by agreement between the county council, the millowner and the owners of affected lands without amending legislation.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary going to do it?

It is not a matter for my Department.

(Cavan): The Parliamentary Secretary has no Department.

He thinks he has.

Order. Will Deputies cease interrupting for a moment?
