Vol. 244 No. 8

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Silage Units.

15.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries the volume of investment in self feed silage units in the State during 1969; and the number of cattle that can now be housed and fed in the winter in such units in the State.

It is estimated that the volume of investment in self feed silage units which were the subject of grant under the Farm Buildings Scheme in 1969 was about £1,900,000. I have no information as to the investment in units which were not the subject of grant.

As regards the second part of the question there are no statistics which would indicate the number of cattle that can be accommodated in self feed silage units in the State.
