Vol. 244 No. 8

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Electrification.

28.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he is aware of the loss of ESB power at Kilkerrin, Ballinasloe, County Galway; and if the necessary steps will be taken to remedy the situation.

I am informed by the ESB that, as far as they are aware, supply in the Kilkerrin area is standard and they have received no complaints. If any consumer has poor supply he should report it to the board's district manager in Galway, who will have the position investigated without delay.

29.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he will consider introducing a crash installation programme of electricity for the whole south west Cork area in view of the great hardships being suffered by many residents and the fact that it is one of the major tourist areas in the country.

The ESB are working to the full limits of their physical and financial resources to complete the planned post-development rural electrification programme as soon as possible and are already giving whatever priority is possible to applicants engaged in the tourist industry. If a crash programme were to be undertaken in any part of the country, it could only be at the expense of the remaining areas.
