Vol. 244 No. 8

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - County Wexford Estate.

55.

asked the Minister for Lands why the Murphy estate, Tenacre, Kilrane, County Wexford in the possession of the Land Commission for the last three years, has not as yet been divided and allotted.

The Land Commission have not had possession of this 26 acre property for three years; in fact, possession passed to them in December, 1968 — just over a year ago.

Composite resale proposals are envisaged for this estate and other lands acquired by the Land Commission in the locality, aggregating in all 104 acres. Pending completion of inquiries on the ground, it is not possible to forecast just now when a scheme for division can be completed.

Does the Minister say the Commissioners were contemplating resale in respect of the Murphy estate?

"Re-allocation" is the term.

Was the Minister expecting a scheme to be drawn up?

That is what I have said. I said "pending completion of inquiries on the ground, it is not possible to forecast just now when a scheme for division can be completed".

I do not know much about the Land Commission. What sort of inquiries are made?

Calls are made on applicants to hear what they have to say. Generally, the neighbours give their views as well. Actually, I know it is rather unlikely that this estate will be divided this spring. The Deputy's question concerns the Murphy estate which is tied up with the resale or reallocation of the Hayes and Gough estates.
