Vol. 244 No. 8

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Offaly Forestry Lands.

77.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that a number of tenants signed over their lands for forestry purposes at Glendine, Kinnitty, County Offaly in 1966; and that the tenants have heard nothing further from the Department since then; and if he will investigate the matter and give the reason for the long delay in making payment to the tenants.

Five tenants on a commonage in Glendine accepted an offer in 1966 to sell their shares in the commonage for forestry. The acceptance was subject to the remaining tenants being prepared to sell their shares. Negotiations with the remaining tenants were unsuccessful and no progress could be made.

The matter is now being re-opened in a further effort to reach agreement with the remaining tenants.
