Vol. 245 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Boarding-out Schemes.

19.

asked the Minister for Health the total number of persons who benefit from boarding-out schemes for old persons in the Republic; and whether he intends to give statutory authority for the extension of these schemes.

I cannot give the Deputy definitive information about the number of old persons boarded out because this service has not been provided under the Health Acts.

I am aware that in at least two areas, Dublin and Westmeath, about 30 old persons are boarded out, the necessary financial help being provided out of public assistance funds.

Under section 61 of the Health Act, 1970, the new health boards will have statutory power to board out old people.
