Vol. 245 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Middle East Conflict.

44.

asked the Minister for External Affairs if he will consider informing the States of the Middle East, which are now in conflict, that Ireland will be prepared to help in any way possible to lessen the suffering and the tension of that area, as a practical indication of this country's desire to help in the maintenance of world peace.

The Government have constantly done everything possible to promote solutions through the United Nations to relieve suffering and to lessen tension in the Middle East, and we have given practical support to the endeavours of the United Nations in this field by making regular financial contributions to the programmes of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) for Palestine refugees and by supplying Irish Army officers for services with the United Nations Truce Supervision Organisation (UNTSO) in the Middle East.
