Vol. 245 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Taxation Yields.

49.

asked the Minister for Finance the percentage increase in (a) total taxation, (b) Central Government taxation and (c) local rates in the ten years 1959-60 to 1969-70.

The information sought by the Deputy is as follows: (a) 198 per cent, (b) 211 per cent, (c) 105 per cent. Since, as indicated in a reply to a question on 10 February, 1970, the rate of inflow of tax revenue in the final quarter of the financial year is normally subject to a considerable degree of fluctuation, the estimates of tax revenue for the current year are based on those published in the Budget.

50.

asked the Minister for Finance the percentage of GNP represented by total taxation in 1959 and 1969.

Total taxation was equivalent to 21.9 per cent of GNP in 1959. The 1969 percentage is provisionally estimated to be about 30 per cent.
