Vol. 245 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Army Representative Machinery.

91.

asked the Minister for Defence if, in view of the dissatisfaction which exists at the lack of adequate representation machinery for officers, NCOs and men concerning pay and conditions, he will consider establishing suitable machinery whereby these matters will be considered with adequate representation for Army personnel.

I do not accept that there is dissatisfaction over this matter. I think that the members of the Defence Forces in general realise the difficulties of having representation machinery of the kind the Deputy seems to have in mind. The welfare of the Defence Forces is the special care of the Government. As I previously stated, a special review of pay and related matters is at present in progress and there is a high ranking military representative taking part in the review. Everything possible is being done to expedite the completion of the review.
