Vol. 246 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Net Fishing.

15.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he will allow net fishing on the River Maine, County Kerry, during the month of August where the fishermen concerned are prepared to give up the first three months of the season.

As indicated in my reply to a similar question on 23rd April, 1969, I would consider holding a public inquiry in the area, at which all interested parties could give evidence, so as to enable me to decide whether it would be justifiable to alter the close season as suggested. If the fishermen concerned wish to make an application for an inquiry, they should submit their case through the Board of Conservators and show how any proposed alteration would be in the interests of the fisheries of the River Maine and of related waters in the area.
