Vol. 246 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork Regional Hospital.

18.

asked the Minister for Health if he will make a statement concerning the present position of the proposed Cork Regional Hospital, outlining the facilities to be provided by this hospital.

Planning of the general hospital for Cork is progressing satisfactorily. I understand that the Cork Hospitals Board expect that tenders will be invited by the end of next year.

The number of beds to be provided in the hospital will be about 600. The hospital will provide facilities for the investigation and treatment of a wide range of conditions including many which involve the use of highly specialised techniques. The accommodation proposed to be built in conjunction with the general hospital includes appropriate facilities for medical education and a nurses training school.
