Vol. 246 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - South Wall (Dublin) Traffic.

22.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if it is proposed to close permanently to vehicular traffic the South Wall extension from the Pigeon House Fort to the Poolbeg Lighthouse, Dublin.

I am informed by the Dublin Port and Docks Board that the Great South Wall, which was constructed as a breakwater, is not a public road. Arising from the risks to vehicles and their occupants from the unevenness of the surface, the absence of lighting and the particular risks arising in such an exposed place in adverse weather conditions, the board have decided that in the interests of safety vehicles should not be permitted on the wall.
