Vol. 247 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Architects' Fees.

29.

asked the Minister for Finance the present level of fees for services by consultant architects employed on public construction work.

Architects in private practice who are employed on State building projects are at present paid fees in accordance with a scale of minimum charges which was approved by the Council of the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland in June 1961. In the case of ordinary new building works the standard charge is 6 per cent on a project costing £5,000 or more; where the cost of the work is less than £5,000, a graduated scale applies.

For alterations and additions to existing buildings higher charges are applicable. Broadly speaking, these are 25 per cent higher than in the case of new buildings.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary tell us whether this is a monarchy, a republic or what?

That is a different question.
