Vol. 247 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Western Migrants.

32.

asked the Minister for Lands the number of farmers in County Galway who sought migration last year; and the number who were successful in their applications.

33.

asked the Minisster for Lands the number of holdings of land that become available annually for prospective migrants from the west of Ireland.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 32 and 33 together. As the number of new holdings reserved by the Land Commission for allotment to migrants is liable to vary each year it would be preferable to take the figures over a period of years.

Over the past five years 363 fully equipped holdings were provided for migrants, of whom the bulk would be from western areas. The number allotted to County Galway migrants during the same period was 40.

During the last year some 90 applications for migration were received from County Galway.
