Vol. 247 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Garda Strength.

54.

asked the Minister for Justice if he considers that the strength of the Garda Síochána in Dublin is adequate to deal with the numerous calls made on them; and if there are any steps being taken to increase the strength of the Garda Síochána and of the Ban-Gharda.

The strength of the Garda Síochána in the Dublin metropolitan area on 25th May, 1970, was 2,311.

As part of the general review of the organisation of the force which is at present being conducted through the newly set up research and planning unit of the Garda Síochána, the needs of the Dublin metropolitan area will be fully examined and any adjustment required of the Garda strength in the area will have my fullest attention.

Will the Minister state whether the Garda or other investigators are continuing their surveillance of members of the Government?

That is a separate question. I am calling Question No. 55.
