Vol. 247 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bankruptcy Law.

61.

asked the Minister for Justice if he has any proposals to bring Irish bankruptcy law up to date.

The law and practice of bankruptcy has been under examination by a Bankruptcy Law Committee which was established in 1962 whose terms of reference require them to recommend the legislation that, in their opinion, is necessary and desirable to consolidate and amend the law. When the committee report to me I hope to be able to prepare proposals for bringing the law up to date on the basis of their recommendations.

When does the Minister expect to receive this report?

I could not say, but I understand that work on the report and on the draft Bill, both of which are fairly lengthy, is fairly well advanced. I could not, however, put a date on the completion of it.
