Vol. 247 No. 2

Written Answers. - Limerick-Shannon Road Junction.

109.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state with reference to Ballycasey Cross on the Limerick-Shannon Road if the Clare County Council have any plans to change the layout of the junction again; whether the County Council have a file or other documentary evidence in their possession or procurement relating to accidents there over the last 10 years, or relating to changes at the junction over the last 10 years; and whether there is evidence to indicate that the many accidents at the junction were due to the fact that drivers were deceived in some way by the layout of the junction.

Clare County Council have proposals for an improvement at this junction. Those proposals have been approved in principle by my Department, subject to the necessary land being available.

I am considering objections to a compulsory purchase order, made by Clare County Council, for the acquisition of the land necessary to permit the road improvements to proceed; I have no information as to the documents held by the council relative to the junction or to the causes of accidents there.
