Vol. 247 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Youghal Coast Protection.

14.

asked the Minister for Finance when it is proposed to commence work on the Youghal coast protection scheme, County Cork.

Arrangements are being made to start this work shortly subject to the availability of cement and steel sheet piling. Some preliminary works have to be done by the local authority in re-location of the roadway at the seafront.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary now give an assurance that this work will be commenced before next winter? Otherwise there will be no coast left to protect.

I should like to say that this work could proceed in the very near future but there is a shortage of cement, as the Deputy well knows. Perhaps the Deputy would have a word with his local authority because there is some work of re-location of the roadway that will have to be carried out before the Office of Public Works can get on with the scheme.

It will be like Donabate and Portrane—put on the long finger.
