Vol. 247 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Revocation of Citizenship.

52.

asked the Minister for Justice for what reasons an alien who has become a citizen of this country can have his citizenship revoked.

The Irish Nationality and Citizenship Act, 1956, provides three ways in which an alien may become a citizen, namely, by registration, by a declaration of acceptance, or by naturalisation, according to the circumstances of the person seeking citizenship.

It is only in the case of acquisition of citizenship by naturalisation that the law makes any provision for revocation. The circumstances in which revocation may take place are set out in section 19 of the Act.
