Vol. 247 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cement Strike Effects.

83.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether his Department have made any assessment of the effects of the cement strike on the house building programme of local authorities.

Local authority housing programmes have been seriously affected by the cement strike. Work on nearly all schemes has been reduced to a low level of activity. There has also been a substantial fall in the number of new dwellings commenced in the past three months.

It is too early yet to assess the effect of the strike in detail, or how far it may be possible to recover lost production later in the year.
