Vol. 247 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballymun (Dublin) Post Office Facilities.

35.

andMr. Clinton asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when he intends providing post office facilities in the Ballymun satellite town, Dublin.

It has been decided to provide a sub-post office to serve the Ballymun housing estate. Applications for appointment as sub-post-master are at present under consideration and I hope to make an appointment to the vacancy shortly.

When will we have proper telephone services to the various shops and businesses in the area?

Very shortly.

What does the Minister mean by that? How long must we wait? Six months? Two months? One month?

Very shortly—as quickly as we can.

Is the Minister aware that many of the old people living in Ballymun are suffering great hardship in collecting their old age pensions? They have to travel long distances. Would the Minister consider making temporary facilities available for these old people?

I understand the sub-office to which I have referred will be in operation within a matter of a couple of weeks.

Will the telephones be installed within two months or within the summer?

They will be installed as quickly as possible.

This has been said for six months.

If this has been said for six months the installation of the phones is six months nearer than it was.

There could be six months further to go before the phones are installed.
