Vol. 247 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Payment of Public Servants.

15.

asked the Minister for Finance what steps are being taken to enable (a) civil servants, (b) civil service pensioners, (c) members of ancillary groups paid by the State such as the Army and Garda Síochána, (d) retired members of these forces, (e) primary teachers, (f) retired primary teachers, (g) vocational teachers, (h) retired vocational teachers, (i) secondary teachers in receipt of incremental salaries, and (j) retired secondary teachers, to cash cheques received from the State or otherwise to secure their emoluments in cash form during the present bank strike.

Arrangements have been made to enable all Government Departments to encash the salary and pension payable orders of all staff employed and formerly employed by them. Cash has also been made available for the pay and pensions of all Army and police personnel. State pensioners may also cash their payable orders at post offices and all payable orders issued by Government Departments in payment of salaries may be lodged in, or, where necessary, used to open, a post office savings account from which cash may be drawn in the normal manner.

Vocational teachers are paid by the various local authorities and the question of providing cash for these employees is a matter for the bodies concerned.
