Vol. 247 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Brucellosis Controls.

22.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries what steps are being taken to prevent Northern Ireland brucellosis reactors being disposed of in this country.

Brucellosis controls at present apply in the five counties in the brucellosis free area, viz. Counties Donegal, Sligo, Leitrim, Cavan and Monaghan. These will be extended over the next few months to Counties Mayo, Louth, Roscommon, Longford, Westmeath and Meath. Where these controls operate, positive evidence of having passed a brucellosis test is required for each heifer, cow, and bull being brought into the area, other than for slaughter.

For other areas, all such animals are required to be accompanied by a permit of the Six County Authorities and such permits are not issued for animals that have reacted to a test for brucellosis or tuberculosis.
