Vol. 247 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Road Workers' Pay.

111.

asked the Minister for Local Government if Westmeath County Council has submitted proposals to adjust the pay differential of road overseers, road gangers, charge-hands and other supervisory workers, in accordance with Labour Court recommendation No. 2446; and, if so, if he will state (a) the date on which approval was requested, (b) the date on which approval was given, (c) if approval has not been given, the reason for the delay and (d) details of the proposals for which sanction was sought.

No proposal to grant an increase in the wage differential payable to the supervisory grades of road-worker referred to has been received in my Department from Westmeath County Council.

112.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will furnish information in connection with adjustment in pay differential for road overseers, road foremen and road gangers (a) sanctioned and (b) awaiting sanction, arising from Labour Court recommendation No. 2446, in respect of each county council, indicating the local authorities which have not submitted proposals for these three grades of supervisory employees, and the amounts sanctioned.

I have sanctioned all proposals for payment of the increase referred to which have been submitted by local authorities to my Department. The local authorities which have not sought sanction for payment of the increase are Donegal, Kerry, Laois, Leitrim, Louth, Mayo, Tipperary North Riding, Westmeath and Wicklow County Councils. Details of the revised amounts payable in the various local authorities on foot of the increase are not available in my Department but, according to information supplied to the Labour Court in the negotiations, the award would result in revised differentials in the case of road overseers of between £6 and £6 2s 6d per week.
