Vol. 247 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - FCA.

37.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he has any figures on the present organisational strength of the FCA.

The present effective strength of An Fórsa Cosanta Áitiúil is 18,533, comprising 657 officers, 2,818 non-commissioned officers and 15,058 privates.

38.

asked the Minister for Defence the total number of men to undergo FCA training during the past 10 years; and whether these return for periodic training.

As the reply to the first part of the question is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose, a Cheann Comhairle, with your permission, to circulate it in the Official Report. The tabulated information refers to non-commissioned officers and privates; similar details in respect of the attendances of officers at courses of training are not readily ascertainable.

A considerable number of members of An Fórsa Cosanta Áitiúil attend more than one period of training during their service but the available records do not make it possible, without the expenditure of a disproportionate amount of time and labour, to ascertain what this number is.

Following is the statement:

NUMBER of Non-Commissioned Officers and Privates of An Fórsa Cosanta Áitiúil who attended Courses of Training in 1960-1969.

Year

Courses of training for not less than seven consecutive days

Courses of training for a continuous period over seven days but less than fourteen
