Vol. 248 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Air-Sea Rescue Services.

23.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power whether he has recently received proposals for the improvement of air-sea rescue services; if so, when he expects to implement these proposals; and if he will make a statement outlining his responsibilities in the matter.

I recently received from the Irish Association of Master Mariners some general suggestions including the acquisition of additional aircraft and helicopters for the air-sea rescue services. These suggestions were not accompanied by any supporting data or evidence to justify the very heavy additional expenditure involved. The adequacy and efficiency of the air-sea services are under review in my Department at present.

As regards my responsibility for the air-sea rescue services, I would refer the Deputy to my detailed reply on 26th February, 1970 to previous questions on this subject.
