Vol. 248 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Industrial Relations Act.

26.

asked the Minister for Labour the total number of cases referred for investigation to the Rights Commissioners under the Industrial Relations Act, 1969; and if he is satisfied that adequate liaison and co-ordination of function exists between the Labour Court and the Commissioners.

It is a matter for a party to a dispute, and not for the Minister for Labour, to refer the dispute to a Rights Commissioner. However, as a matter of convenience I have arranged that parties wishing to be put in touch with a Rights Commissioner may contact my Department and so far 25 inquiries have been transmitted by my Department to the Rights Commissioners in that way.

I am not aware of any inadequacies in liaison and co-ordination of function between the Labour Court and the commissioners.
