Vol. 248 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - School Text Grants.

35.

asked the Minister for Education if he is satisfied that the Government grant for providing school texts is fully operative in all schools within the State.

In the case of secondary schools the scheme applies only to those schools which opted to come within the scheme of free education. It operates in the case of all necessitous pupils attending vocational schools. In relation to the national schools the position is that it is open to the manager of any school in which there are necessitous pupils to apply for a grant.

The Parliamentary Secretary's reply has not clarified the situation for me. What I am trying to find out is whether this grant is applicable in all primary schools to necessitous children.

If I can instance to the Parliamentary Secretary a school where it has not applied and where the principal teacher has written three or four times to the Department of Education and had no reply will he look into the matter?

Certainly.
