Vol. 248 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wandering Horses.

31.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware of the concern felt by residents of the Clonkeen estate, Deansgrange, County Dublin, at the number of loose horses on the estate and possible risk of injury to residents and damage to property on the estate; and what action he proposes to take on the matter.

The problem of wandering horses is recognised as a serious one and the Garda Síochána are doing everything possible to deal with it.

In the last 12 months, 28 prosecutions were instituted against persons whose horses were found wandering on the roads in the Clonkeen estate area. In the same period the Garda impounded 15 horses in that area.

I am aware that wandering horses are a hazard on the roads and that they are, from time to time, the cause of accidents. The Garda will continue to give attention to the problem.
