Vol. 248 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Free Travel Schemes.

26.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will consider extending the free travel scheme to include members of the RIC, who resigned from the force during the Black and Tan war, and also their widows.

RIC pensioners and their widows who qualify for old age pension from my Department are already eligible for free travel. Further extension of the free travel scheme is not at present contemplated.

27.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare whether in the case of old age pensioners travelling on public transport, a senior citizen or special identity card could be issued which would qualify them for free transport.

It is not proposed to make any change in the existing arrangement whereby a pensioner identifies himself by means of his pension order book. This arrangement is working very satisfactorily.
