Vol. 249 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Electrification.

25.

andMr. Cowen asked the Minister for Transport and Power when electricity supply will be granted to three houses at Garrymona, Walsh Island, Geashill, County Offaly.

I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that two of the houses in question have accepted terms for supply and connection will be made in about a month.

The connection of these two houses will have the effect of bringing supply nearer to the third householder and a corresponding reduction in the terms applicable can be expected. The board's Athlone district are arranging to quote revised terms to this householder. If these terms are acceptable, supply will be made available at the same time as to the other householders.

26.

andMr. Cowen asked the Minister for Transport and Power when electricity supply will be granted to 12 houses at the Derries and Cloncannon, Edenderry, County Offaly.

I am informed by the ESB that terms for supply were quoted in recent weeks to the 12 householders concerned. Ten of them have accepted the terms quoted. Work is in progress on the provision of supply to three of these houses. The other seven houses will be connected as soon as the householders have had the internal wiring completed.

The remaining two householders have so far neither accepted nor rejected the terms quoted to them.

27.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if and when his Department intend to give a supply of electricity to the householders living in the Carrownageehy area, Milltown, County Galway.

I am informed by the ESB that the townland in question is in the board's Liskeevy rural area. Recanvass of the area under the rural electrification planned post-development scheme has been completed and work on the extension of supply is due to commence within a few weeks.

28.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if and when the ESB intend to provide electric power for the householders in the Gurteen area, Ballinasloe, County Galway.

I am informed by the ESB that householders in the Gurteen rural area have already had an opportunity of accepting supply under the rural electrification planned post-development programme. This programme is proceeding on a planned basis, area by area, so as to ensure that the available resources are utilised to the best possible extent. It is envisaged that the programme will be completed by 1975; a further opportunity of accepting supply will be offered to unconnected householders in this area in the meantime.
