Vol. 249 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Relative Allowance Scheme.

57.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will consider extending the prescribed relative allowance scheme to include persons caring for those resident in this country who are in receipt of old age pensions from Britain.

As from 1st October this year a scheme similar to the "prescribed female relative" scheme has been introduced for persons over 70 whose yearly means, calculated as for old age pension, do not exceed £299 15s. Persons in receipt of old age pension from Britain whose means do not exceed that figure will be able to qualify for an allowance if they satisfy the prescribed conditions.
