Vol. 249 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tralee Social Welfare Agent.

66.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he is aware of the grave inconvenience caused by the withdrawal of the social welfare agent in Tralee, County Kerry; if he has received representations from the Tralee Council of Trade Unions on this matter; and if he will consider having this office restored as soon as possible.

When the local agent at Tralee died in 1967 arrangements were made for the discharge of the agency duties from headquarters in Dublin. Similar arrangements have been made in recent years in other areas as vacancies have occurred in agency posts and so far as I am aware these arrangements have, in general, proved satisfactory. I have received representations about the agency in Tralee from the Tralee Council of Trade Unions and I am having these examined with the general question of the future of the closed agencies. If the Deputy has particulars of any cases where he considers that inconvenience or hardship has been caused by the closing of the Tralee agency I should be glad to have them for the purpose of this examination.
