Vol. 249 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - EEC Development Regions.

80.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will indicate the criteria laid down or proposed by the EEC authorities for classification of development regions under the terms of Community regional policy; and if he will list the areas of this country which would fall within each of the various classifications.

The Community have not laid down or proposed criteria for classifying development regions for the purposes of Community regional policy. The second part of the question, therefore, does not arise.

Have they any regional policy?

That is a separate question.

Is it not true that they are considering one but they have not got one?

The outlines of the policy are there but it would be true I think to say that there is not any precise one in operation or agreed on.
