Vol. 249 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Carndonagh and Donegal Schools.

132.

asked the Minister for Education the up-to-date position concerning proposals to provide secondary school education at Carndonagh and Donegal.

As the Deputy will be aware, there are at present three post-primary schools in Carndonagh catering for approximately 750 pupils. My Department has received proposals for the erection of a new secondary school and for a large extension to the vocational school. The question of the future overall provision is being considered in the light of these and other proposals and the matters involved will be discussed shortly with the local interests concerned.

As regards Donegal town, agreement has been reached on the phasing out of the secondary school and the development of the vocational school to provide full post-primary facilities in the area. A large extension to the vocational school has been approved and is being given top priority.
