Vol. 249 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dumping Regulations.

48.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries what would be regarded as dumping in relation to commodities such as apples and tomatoes.

This would essentially be a matter for An Coimisiún Dumpála, which is required to investigate and report if a request is made to it by a person who produces products of the same kind or of a kind whose sale might be adversely affected by the dumping of those goods, or by a trade association representing such producers. It would be for the commission to determine whether the products to which the request relates have been, or are being, dumped and that the dumping was or is injurious dumping.

Therefore, these apples or tomatoes would be landed and on sale before a decision could be reached as to whether their importation constituted dumping?

If people find themselves being affected adversely by alleged dumping, they should take their case to An Coimisiún Dumpála.

Is there no machinery that would be more expeditious in dealing with such cases?

I am not aware that An Coimisiún Dumpála are all that slow.
