Vol. 249 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Limerick Drainage.

8.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will give a comprehensive report on steps which have been taken and the progress made to reduce the problem regarding the drainage of the River Maigue following the Supreme Court decision.

9.

asked the Minister for Finance if, in view of unemployment caused by the delays on work on the Shannon Banks and Maigue drainage, he will expedite drainage work on the Groody and Maigue rivers; and when work will commence.

With your permission, a Cheann Chomhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 8 and 9 together.

As a result of the decision of the Supreme Court, it is necessary to prepare an amended scheme for the Maigue catchment area. The scheme will have to be exhibited and the other provisions of the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945, complied with before works on the ground can be commenced.

The preparation of the scheme is being expedited and it is hoped to put it on exhibition early in the new year.

Work on the Groody scheme will be started within the next week.
