Vol. 249 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kennedy Memorial Hall.

18.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will give the current position concerning the Kennedy Memorial Concert Hall.

I propose to ask for a meeting of the All-Party Committee as soon as convenient to discuss the plans and estimate of cost of the hall.

Will the Minister state when the All-Party Committee last met? Is he aware of the fact that private efforts are being made to raise the finances for such a hall?

I have not got conveniently, at any rate, the answer to the first part of the Deputy's supplementary. The answer to the second part is, yes.

Would the Minister give these private efforts his support? Is he aware of the fact that two composers came from America to give a concert in aid of this private building fund?

Will the Minister support the private effort to raise money?

It depends on what the Deputy means. I am certainly not discouraging it.

Was a meeting held last year?

I do not know. I do not think so.

Was one held within the past two years?

I do not know but it was not within the last year, as far as I know.

Has the Minister any idea at all when he is likely to be in a position to commence the building of this memorial hall and if the finances are available or has he any idea when they are likely to be available because it is particularly badly needed in this city?

He could always get a loan from Mulcahy.

I am not in a position to put a date on commencement.
