Vol. 249 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Intermediate Certificate Paper.

30.

asked the Minister for Education the number of pupils who sat for mechanical drawing examinations at this year's intermediate certificate examination; and the number of such pupils who failed.

A total of 6,113 candidates sat for mechanical drawing at this year's intermediate certificate examination. Of these 112 secured Grade A, 407 Grade B, 786 Grade C, 1,306 Grade D, 1,360 Grade E, 1,501 Grade F and 566 failed to secure any grade.

Is this not above the national average of failures in subjects in the intermediate examination?

Yes, I agree it is but as this subject was introduced for the first time in 1969 I suppose a certain allowance will have to be made for that.

Not in marking the papers.
